Pre-Case[]

Autumn Starfall[]

The City's residents witnessed a wonderful anomaly during the night – a meteor shower. Sparks falling from the sky collected in a specific place in the City. When the fog cleared in the morning, it revealed a majestic Observatory tower. What secrets are hidden inside?

Conductor: Did you see the shooting stars last night? I haven't seen anything like it in a long time. It seemed like the stars didn't burn up in the atmosphere, but concentrated themselves in a specific place at the outskirts of the City. I remember that some oddball used to live there, always searching for the stars. But the fog obscures the night sky, so how can anyone see them?

I wonder what the local press is writing about this? It's good that the City now has an enthusiast who set up a printing business. I'll go buy the latest issue.

Player: Get me one as well.
City newspaper article
CITY OF SHADOWS TIMES

Special edition!

Last night, the inhabitants of the City witnessed a meteor shower for the first time in many years. The flow of meteorites centered on the outskirts of the City, and in the morning an Observatory appeared from the fog. When I approached the building, I saw strange sparks inside the tower. I was unable to get inside. The massive door was closed, and no one responded to my knocking. What happened there?

Read the next issue to find out.

Adeline Svensson, your guide in the world of facts.

Detective: Glad to see you, buddy!

I also got up early to see what the shooting stars had brought to the City. Just look at this huge tower with a telescope on the roof. My instinct tells me that secrets are hidden here. There's a suspicious light coming from inside... And here I thought that reporters embellished everything to attract readers.

Player: Let's look around.

What the Stars Brought[]

Goal: Unlock the Observatory.

Assignment
Inspector: Last night, the inhabitants of the City witnessed a meteor shower for the first time in many years. In the morning, when the fog cleared, an old Observatory appeared on the outskirts of the City. An unknown energy anomaly is raging inside the building and a girl is trapped inside it. What happened at the tower? Why did the City bring it back now? I will write down my ideas.

Introduction[]

Following a meteor shower, the City revealed an Observatory that had been hidden by the fog for many years. Few people can remember the Astronomer who tried to see the starry sky through the fog. What happened to the inhabitants of the Observatory? And why does the air around it crackle with electricity?

Stage 1[]

The only inhabitant of the Observatory is trapped by an unknown electrical anomaly. Help Isabelle dispel the anomaly and save the girl's life.

Goal: Dispel the anomaly.

Inspector: Who would've guessed that a beautiful meteor shower would present the City with such a surprise. I certainly didn't expect to find a girl trapped by an ominous electrical anomaly in the Observatory. Her life is in danger. We must save her from this phenomenon. Let's start the investigation, but be careful not to share her fate.
Player: Let's begin.
Isabelle: I've never seen such a phenomenon before. There are no anomalies of this nature in the City and I hope there never will be again after we catch it. I want to study it in more detail. To do this, I need items with the properties of artifacts. I will use them to create a device that will destroy this electrical anomaly. The girl's life hangs in the balance. Every minute counts!
Player: Let's hurry, then.

Celtic Indicator[]

Goal: Find the Rattleback.

Rewards:

Martha: Since there's no time to waste, we must act quickly. Examine the Observatory. I saw a Rattleback somewhere – it has an oblong top with a convex area and no sharp points or edges. It will act as an indicator in the destruction of the electrical anomaly.
Upon Completion
Martha: You found the Rattleback. It can change the direction of its rotation and will help Isabelle create a device that will destroy the anomaly.

Anomaly Spectrum[]

Goal: Find the X-Cube Prism.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins

Assignment
Isabelle: When everything is flooded with white light, the size of the anomaly is difficult to determine. We need to transform the white halo surrounding it with an X-Cube – a separation prism that will help us determine the size of the anomaly.
Upon Completion
Isabelle: This X-Cube Prism broke down the light emitted by the anomaly, and now it's clear that it doesn't fill the entire Observatory, but is only present around the girl.

Pressure of Light[]

Goal: Find the Crookes Radiometer.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Star x14 40 40
Assignment
Professor: We need a Crookes Radiometer to determine the light pressure of the anomaly. It's a four-bladed impeller, balanced on a needle inside a glass bulb. Find it. This impeller will help Isabelle destroy the anomaly around the girl.
Upon Completion
Professor: The radiometer rotates due to the intensity of light. Measuring this value will allow Isabelle to figure out how to destroy the anomaly.

Creative Process[]

Goal: Find the Meteorite Sample.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Star x16 40 40
Assignment
Isabelle: I gathered some information and now I can take a guess at how to destroy the anomaly. Do you see that stone glowing with golden light from the inside? It looks like a meteorite. Bring it to me. I feel that I will need it to destroy the anomaly.
Upon Completion
Isabelle: I don't remember a meteorite ever falling in the City. It contains rare metals, so its unusual properties might help me destroy the anomaly.

Surplus Storage[]

Goal: Find the Electrostatic Machine.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Star x20 40 40
Assignment
Inspector: To save the girl, Isabelle needs something that can store the anomaly's energy. I noticed an Electrostatic Machine in the Observatory. Let's get it out of this mess and give it to Isabelle.
Upon Completion
Inspector: Great, the Electrostatic Machine wasn't affected by the explosion. As it rotates, static electricity gathers and then a discharge occurs. It will help us destroy the anomaly.
Detective: Buddy, the equipment and items we found in the Obseratory could've been used for experiments with high-powered energy. Maybe these experiments caused the anomaly that is tormenting the girl? We need to destroy it before it's too late.
Player: Let's hurry, then.

A Trap for Electricity[]

Goal: Dispel the anomaly. Assemble the “Destroying the Anomaly” collection.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Star x24 100 100
Assignment
Isabelle: The items you found helped me study the anomaly. I will call on the magic of the City to create a Lightning Catcher. It will absorb the energy of the electrical field around the girl so I can destroy the anomaly. The artifacts will increase our chances of success. Will you lend me a few?

Adeline Svensson: The Lightning Catcher worked just as planned – the mysterious girl from the Observatory is free. She is unconscious now.

Isabelle, the anomaly expert, says that this is the most powerful electrical anomaly she has ever seen. She believes that the anomaly was created intentionally. The detectives have not yet commented on the incident. I wonder what you'll say to them?

Player: It's not the time for an interview.
Mystery Woman: I see the star path! But the stars are falling. I must quickly write down this information... Where's my pen and the star charts diary? Quick! Whose voices am I hearing? Who are you? Show yourselves!

Ugh, I don't feel good... I'm losing strength... I can't see anything. Please, help me...

Player: She's unconscious again.

Stage 2[]

The girl awakens for only a second, and then loses consciousness again. Well, we'll have to inspect the Observatory ourselves and find out who this girl is and what she was doing in the building.

Goal: Identify the mystery woman.

Detective: Buddy, this girl is describing her vision... Look, a strand of her hair is turning gray!

What did she see on this “star path?” Suspicious, isn't it? Who is she and what is she doing in the Observatory? We need to examine her personal belongings and establish her identity.

Player: We'll figure this out.

Smart Comfort[]

Goal: Find the Smart Teapot.

Martha: The City's magic is passing through the personal belongings of the Observatory's inhabitants. Look, stars are lighting up on the vault. They are pointing to a secret cache. Inside it is a diary with diagrams of constellations. I think it will help us establish the identity of this girl.

Interlude

A Letter pops up:
Helen Star, 284th day of the Fog Calendar.

Father realized that he could determine the City's location. He saw something in the constellation diagrams that I worked on, but he refuses to tell me the details until he confirms his assumptions. The next hundred days will be spent working on an optical miracle. Soon it will allow me to base my research on more than just theory and old memories. When we're done, I will find out where the distortion carried us.

Inspector: Let's summarize: the girl's name is Helen Star. She is the daughter of an astronomer whose name remains unknown. She was making a map of the starry sky using theory alone, due to the fog obscuring the sky over the City at night so no one could see the stars. Something's not quite right here. Being in the tower all the time, in the City of Shadows, she hoped to calculate where the City had moved to after the distortion based on the starry sky. That means she needed to invent something to achieve her goal. What kind of optical miracle is she talking about?
You: I would like to know.

Stage 3[]

The girl's name is Helen. she lived in the Observatory with her father and tried to use the starry sky to determine where the city had moved after the distortion. She probably needed to invent something to achieve her goal. Perhaps this is what caused the explosion in the Observatory? Goal: Identify the cause of the anomaly.

Detective: Buddy, I studied these records and something interesting came up. It turns out that apart from being up to her neck in work, Helen and her father often argued. It seems that they had different approaches to their work. Judging by the records, they were building a Fog Telescope to make a breakthrough in their research. Could it have caused the explosion?
You: Let's see.
Character Name:
You:
Martha: Everything in the Observatory is hidden behind puzzles and riddles! The most difficult of which is whether the anomaly is connected to the invention of the Fog Telescope. It seems that its creation led to irreversible consequences. I can't read anything from Helen's aura. the anomaly has weakened it. That's why the girl hasn't regained consciousness yet. Let's find out what caused the explosion in the Observatory ourselves.
You: Let's get to work.

 Lightning Strike[]

Goal: Find the Fulgurite.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x 14 40 40
Assignment
Cardsharp: Who told you that I'm only interested in the clatter of precious metals? All lies! I admire any rarities or treasure.... I was lured to the Observatory by the shine of a Fulgurite - a figurine created by a lightning bolt. Let's find it together and learn the cause of the explosion. Then we'll reach an agreement, okay?
Upon Completion
Cardsharp: Fulgurite is sand scorched by a lightning strike. Hmm, lightning would have burned everything but there are no traces of fire. This means that the lightning was guided, and very skillfully.

 Woman in Gloves[]

Goal: Find the Protective Gloves. (Distortion mode)

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x16 45 45
Assignment
Juliette: I've noticed that Helen has a large collection of gloves at the Observatory, and they don't really look like they're meant for outings. I can tell a lot about a lady by her gloves. Bring them to me. Maybe they'll tell us something about the explosion at the Observatory.
Upon Completion
Juliette: I'm sure that the owner of these Protective Gloves worked with electricity. they are elegant, but there are spots on them spoiled by the effects of heat. Oh, there's a note.
A Letter pops up:
Helen Star, 354th day of the Fog Calendar.

The creation of the Fog Telescope is taking a lot of energy out of me. Each unsuccessful experiment distances me from the possibility of "seeing" through the fog at night. I am hindering the process. Father has nearly completed everything, but I cannot focus and direct a flow of energy of the required strength. I hope I will be ready by the time of the first launch. Father believes in me. I cannot let him down.''

Conductor: It all adds up. Helen was responsible for supplying the telescope with energy. Here, her calculations show that the telescope consumes a lot of power. But for some reason there is no power generator on the diagram. Helen must have been designing it.
You: Seems like it.

 The Power of Rejection[]

Goal: Find the Levitating Planet.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x19 50 50
Assignment
Detective: I've been gazing at this Levitating Planet with moons for almost an hour. Why is it hovering in the air? I tried looking for magnets or this threads, but there's nothing. Help me catch this planet. My instinct tells me that it's somehow connected to the explosion.
Upon Completion
Detective: The Levitating Planet is suspended in the air under the influence of some energy inside it. But this is an ordinary papier-mâché model. Who put an energy source inside it?

 Refraction of Energies[]

Goal: Find the Energy Lens.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x22 55 55
Assignment
Martha: I studied the Observatory's aura and came to the conclusion that the energy that flows here is constantly focused, passing through an Energy Lens. Perhaps this is what caused the explosion in the Observatory? Let's find it.
Upon Completion
Martha: These Energy Lens focus a whole spectrum of subtle energies, but now I see that it couldn't have provided the explosion. But we are getting closer to the answer.

 An Abnormal Photo[]

Goal: Find the Picture of an Aura.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x24 55 55
Assignment
Isabelle: I noticed aura pictures in the Observatory. Perhaps they belong to the girl. I believe they will help me determine what caused the explosion. Find the picture with the clearest image.
Upon Completion
Isabelle: Judging by the Picture of an Aura you found, Helen herself became the source of this anomaly. I think she may be the power generator we are looking for. But I'm not certain.

Interlude

Detective: s, buddy, what do we have here? Helen and her father spent a long time creating the Fog telescope, which can "see" through the fog during the night. Apparently, they finished the technical part of the work. During the first launch, Helen was supposed to create an energy source to power the telescope. but how did the test end? There are no further records - the diary pages were ripped out.
You: It seems someone is hiding something.

 Hidden Energy Beam[]

Goal: Create the Lightning Catcher. Assemble the "Hidden Energy" collection.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x30 120 120
Assignment
Isabelle: We collected the objects affected by Helen's hidden energy. I need the City's magic to understand what happened to the Fog Telescope during its first launch. I'll need a few artifacts for this. Bring them to me and we will begin.
Hidden Energy Collection
Items: Fulgurite, Protective Gloves, Levitating Planet, Energy Lens, Picture of an Aura
Assemblers: Rock Crystal x6, Lamp x6, Comet x6, Mechanical Dragonfly x6
Prize: Glass Well
Rewards: Celestial Star x130, Magic Octahedron x1, Compass x1, Secret Assembler x1, Falling Star Fragrence x1, Energy x103, Coins x2850
Upon Completion
Isabelle: Look, the magic of the artifacts created a beam of light. It passed through the telescope lenses and showed a picture from the past in the mirror. It depicted the telescope's launch. Look, there's another note, but the handwriting is different.

Interlude

A Letter pops up:
381st day of the Fog Calendar, the City of Shadows

The experiment was a success, albeit at a high price. The fog Telescope I created with my daughter works exactly as we expected. Unfortunately, it is difficult for me to continue my research after what happened. When Helen, using her paranormal abilities, sent energy to the telescope's generator, an unplanned energy spike occurred. This created an unknown anomaly and put Helen into an energy-induced coma.

A. Star

Isabelle: The anomaly that imprisoned Helen for many years appeared at the first launch of the Telescope. When the girl used her paranormal abilities to create a powerful source of energy, something went wrong. Helen Fell into a trance. She was captured by an electrical anomaly and her father could not, or did not want to release her. I wonder if he's a man who doesn't show his emotions, or just a scoundrel?
You: So this was an accident.
A Letter pops up:
391st day of the Fog Calendar, the City of Shadows

I studied Helen's condition as best I could. The only thing I can do is wait until the excess energy is released, which will destroy the telescope's lenses. I don't know how long this will take, and I cannot simply waste this time. I won't ask for help. It's too early for that.... Using this situation, I will continue to work for the benefit of the City and science.

A. Star

Mayor: A malfunction during the telescope's first launch put Helen into a trance. The Astronomer decided not to seek help and disappeared somewhere. What was he studying that was so important? Why did he choose to neglect his child's condition? His research must be extraordinary for us to forgive him for disregarding the state of his daughter! I would never do something like that. Continue your investigation. Now this is personal!
You: We'll figure it out.

Stage 4[]

It turns out that the Astronomer and Helen managed to launch a powerful telescope, but its power was too high, and it exploded, pulling Helen into the anomaly. But why did the Astronomer continue working instead of seeking help for his daughter? We should read his notes. Goal: Decipher the Astronomer's notes.

Detective: All the Astronomer's records that I've seen are encrypted. He covered his tracks skillfully, buddy, to find out what he was doing. We'll have to find a code for his cipher. It's not an easy task and it will require great attention to detail from us. We'll bring this guy's secret to light! We should loo for decoders in the Observatory, study the records and find out why he didn't seek help.
You: What are you planning?

 Astronomical Abracadabra[]

Goal: Find the Encryption Ring

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x17 40 40
Assignment
Isabelle: I believe the text in which the letters dance as if under the influence of "Abracadabra" could be encrypted using a shift method. We could decode it using an Encryption Ring with two lines of characters. Find the Encryption ring in the Observatory so we can decipher the Astronomer's code and understand why he didn't call for help when disaster struck Helen.
Upon Completion
Isabelle: Look, there are symbols on the back of the Encryption ring as well. The Astronomer used 5 letters shifted to the right. I'll start deciphering the code.

 Field Notes[]

Goal: Find the Cylindrical Mirror

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x19 55 55
Assignment
Alex: The drawings in the Astronomer's notebook are very conceptual. They look like vague dreams. Do you think he encrypted something in the drawings? We can decipher them using a Cylindrical Mirror. Look for it in the Observatory. It will let us crack the cipher.
Upon Completion
Alex: I held the Cylindrical Mirror up to the drawings in the Astronomer's diary and saw them clearly. Does this symbol look like a piece of the cipher code, or am I mistaken?

 Cipher on a String[]

Goal: Find Aeneas's Disk.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x22, 55 55
Assignment
Huntress: I noticed several Aeneas's Disks in the Observatory. Aeneas invented a coding device that uses a plate with holes, which a rope is pulled through. Bring me all the disks you can find. I will help you find out why the Astronomer didn't ask for help.
Upon Completion
Huntress: On the Aeneas's Disk you found, each hole corresponds to a letter. If I untangle the thread, I'll be able to read the Astronomer's encrypted message.

 Intentional Errors[]

Goal: Find the Cardan Grille. (Distortions mode)

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x25 60 60
Assignment
Martha: Some star charts in the Observatory contain error - the constellations have too many bright stars. I'm sure it's not accidental and is actually a cipher. Let's use the Cardan Grille to decipher it. It's definitely somewhere in the Observatory.
Upon Completion
Martha: By attaching the Cardan Grille you found to the starry sky map, I can read the message the Astronomer tried to hide. But I need time.

 Mixing Up Letters[]

Goal: Find the Scytale.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x28 60 60
Assignment
Inspector: Cryptography is my secret passion. I know how to decrypt the permutation code. To unravel it and understand why the Astronomer didn't ask anyone to help Helen, I will need a Scytale. It's a narrow cylinder with a strip of parchment. Look for it in the Observatory.
Upon Completion
Inspector: Let's see what message the Scytale will convey to us. This method was invented by the ancient Greeks, and the Astronomer used Latin for the cipher.

Interlude

Detective: We found the Astronomer's records and decrypted the ciphers he used. but that's not all. the Astronomer clearly didn't want anyone to learn his secrets, so he invented his own code. Without the key, we cannot read his records. You know, buddy, some of the symbols we saw in the Astronomer's notes seem familiar to me. I think this mysterious man is closely connected to the City's fate.
You: We will soon find out.

 Cryptography Origins[]

Goal: Decipher the Astronomer's code. Assemble the "Cipher for an Astronomer" collection.

Rewards:

Reward Experience Coins
Celestial Stars x32 125 125

Character: The magical energy of the artifacts highlights the symbols on the Cryptographic disk and they take on a different appearance, as new symbols appear on one of the disks. Bring me the notes, and I'll read them.

Interlude

A Letter pops up:
Dear Sir,

I hope I don't need to explain to you that your letter has put the members of the Order at risk. Despite this, I will offer you a journey to the center of the City. there you will find the great invention of our Creator. It will help you save Helen without putting her life in danger. She cannot survive without the anomaly. I consider it my duty to warn you that searching for the House with Red Windows is equivalent to suicide, since the Shadow is hunting for the Order's knowledge.

Your loyal friend, the Collector

Detective: Helen's father, the Astronomer, is one of the legendary Defenders of the City - the Order of Five! He didn't ask for help because separating the girl from the anomaly would have killed her. her father wanted to save her using a device kept somewhere in the center of the City. he secretly went after it, believing that this was the only way to save her life. but now she's dying.
You: What have we done?
Martha: The powers are leaving Helen, and her life is hanging by a thread. I will try to contact the girl's spirit, which has started to leave her body. I see a huge energy hole through which Helen is losing strength and vitality. We must help her, but we need to act quickly! I'll try to figure out how to stabilize Helen's condition and stop her from losing all her vital energy.
You: We will save her.

Stage 5[]

The Astronomer turned out to be a member of the Order of Five. He went looking for the House with Red Windows, hoping to find a way to save Helen from the anomaly. but now the girl is rapidly losing her life force. We need to create an artifact that will maintain Helen's vital energy. Goal: Save Helen's life.

Isabelle: Helen's energy is dwindling. We need to find a way to keep her life force from running out. Martha is maintaining contact with the girl's spirit. This will give us a little more time to create the Zodiac Flywheel amulet. It will gather all the energy that is escaping Helen's body and return it to her. this will let us create a safer version of the anomaly.
You: What do we need?

 The Power of Virgo[]

Goal: Find the Virgo Sign. Rewards:

Martha: The Zodiac Flywheel amulet must be based on Helen's zodiac sign. Her diary says that she was born on August 1, meaning that she is a Leo. Her astrological symbol must be somewhere in the Observatory. Find it as soon as possible and then let's begin the ritual.
Upon Completion
Martha: Excellent. This Leo Sign belongs to Helen. Now everything is ready for the ritual to create the Zodiac Flywheel to help the girl keep her vital energy.
Isabelle: The zodiac symbols you have collected are powerful sources of energy of different elements. The people who decided to take part in the ritual will give a piece of their strength to save Helen's life. By combining the astrological power, Martha and I will create the Zodiac Flywheel amulet that will put Helen's energy on a loop and won't allow it to ceaselessly escape.

Interlude

Helen: It's so cold.... What.... What happened to me? Who are you? Don't come any closer! What do you mean, my father "left the Observatory?" I was just talking to him. He... he was here right next to me. He was always beside me. I-I don't understand what happened here. What are you talking about? He would never abandon me. I don't believe you. Prove it!
You: Here's the proof.
A Letter pops up:
499th astronomical day of the fog Calendar, City of Shadows

I will leave the Observatory today at dawn. I'm hoping that the fog will hide it safely until I return, and that my Helen will be all right. While she was in a trance and feeding the telescope with energy, I learned a lot about the City of Shadows and its properties. I must report this to the Order. This information is so valuable that they will be ready to do anything if I share it with them. In exchange for my research, I ask only one thing - to save the life of my daughter. she's been in a trance for too long. Dear Helen, I hope you forgive me.

A. Star

Helen: Si everything you say is true.... How much time has passed since the launch of the telescope? What year is it? I can't believe that I spent almost a hundred years in a trance and that my father abandoned the Observatory to save my life. And now he's gone. You saved me. thank you for freeing me from this anomaly. I need a little time to recover.
You: It will be alright.

Post-Case[]

We saved Helen - the daughter of the Astronomer from the Order of five. The girl awoke after a long trance in the center of the anomaly. she intends to continue working on the telescope and find her father. But most of the Observatory's mysteries still remain unsolved. What happened to the Astronomer? Can Helen fix the telescope that sees the stars through the fog? Where did the other members of the Order of Five go?

All secrets will one day come to light - one only needs to watch the stars closely.

Reward: Moon Dream Talisman

Isabelle: I studied the records from the Observatory again, and one thing haunts me: how did the Astronomer learn that the fog would absorb the Observatory after his departure? Judging by the tone of the note, he didn't just expect it, but knew for certain! Unprecedented! I have some ideas.
You: What do you want to do?

Martha: The Astronomer knew that Helen would spend many years in the fog. But how did he know that? In his diary, the Astronomer constantly uses Fog Calendar dates, but there's nothing like that in the Observatory. Bring me some artifacts. Maybe they will help us find the calendar and learn its secret.

Martha: I focus the energy of artifacts, and it passes through the encrypted records. the signs are highlighted, and their light is reflected in the Mirror Well and forms a calendar - the Astronomer's Fog Calendar - which he used for all his research.

Detective: That's an unexpected turn, buddy. It turns out the Astronomer not only invented the telescope that nearly killed his daughter, but also a calendar that can be used to track the fog's movements. It's a pity that not everyone can read the symbols on the fog Calendar. the Astronomer encrypted it in such a way that even Helen doesn't know how to use it. I'm sure she'll figure it out... eventually.
You: She'll need luck.
